South took the first trick with Dummy's Ace, drew trumps ending in
dummy, nd ran the Jack of Hearts. However, now West did well. He
scooped up the Queen of Hearts and placed the 4 of Diamonds on the table!.
East won with the 8 and switched to the Queen of Clubs, defeating the
contract.
How did West find that defence? Because East had been careful to
signal with the 10 of diamonds at trick one, promising the 9 as well.
South grumbled about his bad luck, but you stepped in to say.....what?
South should of ducked the first trick........ of course! It always
pays to stop and think at trick one!
